The second Beilin International Garden Construction Festival has come to a perfect end in the autumn of 2019. The 15 bamboo architecture works blooming in Beijing Forestry University not only amaze Chinese landscape architecture students, but also broadcast overseas, which are reported by the authoritative media of Australian landscape architecture industry and the Royal University of science and technology of Melbourne.
Recently, landscape Australia (landscapeaustralia. Com), a well-known portal of Australian landscape architecture, published an article named the community of Gardening: Beijing Forest University's second garden making Festival. Taking Beilin International Garden Festival as the carrier, this paper introduces the role of Chinese classical culture and the concept of artistic conception in Chinese classical poetry and traditional garden / garden to the Australian landscape architecture circle, so as to explore the thinking angle and method of East-West design. The author of this paper is Jock Gilbert, head of RMIT landscape architecture department and Li Zixuan, assistant professor of RMIT.
“The projects produced for the 2019 festival successfully deploy elements of each position, generating a sense of the poetic in each case.”
"The 2019 Garden Festival project successfully launched every element of the design position, creating a unique poetic sense."

About landscape Australia
Landscape Australia (landscapeaustralia. Com) is a website dedicated to providing rich landscape design and urban design and planning information. It is also a supporting website of Australian landscape architecture Australia, a national magazine of Australian landscape architects.
Landscape Australia covers domestic, regional and international issues and work, as well as news, interviews, and views and comments from prominent writers, practitioners, scholars and critics. After careful planning, each section is divided into news, review, practice and location columns. The content also draws on the projects, awards, reviews and critical papers of Australian landscape architecture and other construction media (such as Australian architecture) over 35 years. Landscape Australia has rapidly established a comprehensive online and offline resource pool and expanded its content scope through strategic alliance.
Australian Institute of Architects (AIA), Planning Institute Australia (PIA), Australian Institute of landscape designers and managers (aildm) and Australian Garden The recognition of History Society (aghs) is also part of the Australian architecture media family. Construction media is AIA's partner company, including online and print publications, as well as a series of awards and events focusing on the building environment.

The day after the selection, it was sunny. It's a holy and wonderful feeling to walk with my friends and see the skin structure woven by myself constantly changing in the flow of light and shadow, and to see the created space full of sunshine. For me, construction is not only the combination of materials, the iteration of space, but also the construction behavior itself has some extraordinary value, which directly determines the character and temperament of the structure. The subdivision and selection of materials, the model test and analysis of different connection modes, and the control of the structural aspects all ultimately achieve the character characteristics of the building, such as being bold and unconstrained, or being dignified and elegant. For us in the ivory tower, every step is like a game between sensibility and rationality, finding an optimal solution for large-scale practice after countless deliberation.
Garden Festival encourages a new cognitive way to guide spatial perception through objective factors on a practical scale. Here, architectural art is no longer just a static form in the ideal state of the drawing, but a dynamic and constantly changing process. Without pictures, drawings or words, participants must capture small changes in the climate environment, so as to make a design more suitable for the scene, integrated into the overall environment and feedback on the environment. After the rain, the bamboo is transparent after being wetted, the light slides and jumps back and forth in the structure, the swaying spot, the wind direction changes and the sound echoes. Here, "feeling" is put into the first consideration, which blurs out the external experience and labels of visitors, so as to arouse people's deep resonance and connection with common perception. Therefore, a good design is not pleasing to people, but as a catalyst to guide people to perceive space and find the great value of the existing ordinary elements in life, such as the attitude that a landscape man should have when building.

Just a few days of construction activities, a lot of feelings. From the preparatory work in the early stage to the division of labor and cooperation in the process of everyone's participation, to playing their own strengths in the face of difficulties, actively solving the problems, and finally completed the construction of our project. What we gain in the whole process is not only the experience accumulated when we participate in the actual construction project, but also how to play a good role in the team as a member of a team to complete the whole project. The initial positioning, stake driving, assembly of components, and then accurately stabilize them in the designated position. Only by doing things in person can we understand the importance of each step for the next progress, which is difficult to fully feel in the school alone. What makes me feel most is that in the last two days of the scheme surface element weaving process, the interweaving of bamboo strips, the soft and hard characteristics of the material and its transparency add unexpected effects to the final scheme. On a clear day, the light and shadow cast by the sunlight through the gaps on the woven surface of the building, together with the carefully arranged plants and the set route in the pavilion, create a rich sensory experience for the visitors. Especially on the last day, when it rained, the rain soaked the bamboo strips and suddenly became transparent. The change of the outer surface from opaque to translucent brought us new surprises. We went through the gap and searched for four changes. This construction Festival brought not only the accumulation of practical experience, but also the full experience of everyone working together to complete the whole project in a few days Fulfillment.

Exploring bamboo in practice
With the rapid development of human society, the exploration of materials is gradually towards the sustainable direction of green safety, energy conservation and emission reduction. Among many building materials, bamboo with its own advantages has been found to stand out. People's attitude towards beauty is changing quietly. What has practical value is more in line with the public's aesthetic. Bamboo seems to be a better interpretation of people's cognition of new aesthetics. Not only that, it also promotes the healthy and sustainable development of ecology.
The sustainability of bamboo lies in taking it from nature and returning it to nature. In the process of continuous practice, we have made a new breakthrough in the understanding of bamboo by combining the existing connection technology and traditional processing methods. Its structure is no less than ordinary building materials. In addition to the construction of the frame, the bamboo skin and bamboo yellow used in the process of weaving the "face" are all derived from the bamboo itself. It can be seen that the utilization rate and practicability of bamboo are also very high. Although there are some deficiencies in the bending strength of bamboo in the process of processing, the combination of scientific connection method reduces the error between the solid building and the ideal design. It can be seen that the combination of traditional and modern technology will better stimulate the potential of materials.
The progress of human civilization is nothing more than "taking the essence and abandoning the dross". In the future development, how to combine the essence left by predecessors and explore new materials will provide a possibility for achieving the goal of sustainable development. The development of urbanization is accompanied by the consumption of energy and the accumulation of unrecyclable building materials. Thus, renewable and recyclable resources such as bamboo should be explored, which is expected to become the foundation for the future development of green ecology.
