Application of organosilicon in coatings

The application technology of organosilicon in coatings (including ink) has developed from professional and high-performance coatings to more extensive fields. One


Insulating materials


The first application technology of silicone as coating is silicone impregnated glass fiber cloth tape, which is used as the insulation and protection layer of electric wire on U.S. Navy submarine. In the 1950s, China developed silicone resin, which was mainly used for insulation impregnation of H-class motor coil, impregnation of glass fiber cloth for H-class motor wire and slot insulation, impregnation of glass fiber insulating sleeve, mica tape for insulation, etc.






Therefore, pure silicone resin as insulating coating is the oldest silicone product. The pure silicone resin produced by the old process has the advantages of high temperature resistance, weather resistance, good insulation and other universal organic resins, but it also has the disadvantages of high curing temperature, long curing time, poor adhesion, high temperature adhesion and so on. With the development of science and technology, and the development of new materials, organosilicon is not the only H-class insulating paint. There are high-performance organic resin H-class insulating paint, such as polyimide and polyester.






Therefore, in order to meet the needs of the situation, the silicone coating must be developed to the direction of new technology, new varieties and new uses. The three defects of silicone resin have been greatly improved by the innovation of silicone production process and the new technology of cold splicing or copolymerization of silicone resin and silicone resin, so the application field of silicone coating has been expanded.

Primer


The bonding force between coating and substrate includes mechanical bonding force, chemical bonding force, diffusion force and dipole force. The adhesion of the coating is directly affected by the adhesion.






The main methods to improve the adhesion between the coating and the substrate are: substrate grinding, sandblasting, reducing the construction viscosity of the coating, improving the construction temperature, improving the wettability of the substrate (using solvent wiping, corona, flame burning, oxidant treatment, etc.), and the use of adhesion promoter is related to silicone, that is, the use of primer. The silicone material used for primer is mainly silane. Alkoxysilane can improve the adhesion, fluidity, leveling, wear resistance, dispersibility, water resistance and salt fog resistance of coatings and substrates, and has been widely used in primer formulations of various metals and silicon containing materials.
