Understanding the properties of fluorosilicone rubber

Hits: 1137 img

Fluorosilicone rubber has excellent oil and solvent resistance. It has good stability at room and high temperatures for aliphatic, aromatic and chlorinated hydrocarbon solvents; various petroleum-based fuel oils, lubricating oils, hydraulic oils and certain synthetic oils (such as diester lubricating oils, silicate hydraulic oils, etc.), and can also maintain elasticity.

Fluorosilicone rubber characteristics:

Oil resistance, solvent resistance, chemical resistance
Compared with methyl vinyl silicone rubber, fluorosilicone rubber has extremely good oil resistance, solvent resistance, and chemical resistance; even compared with fluororubber, oil resistance and solvent resistance are also good. After immersion in the same medium, temperature, and time, it shows excellent durability. It can be said that fluorosilicone rubber is the only elastomer that is resistant to non-polar media at -60℃ to 260℃. Fluorosilicone rubber is also relatively resistant to methanol-containing gasoline. Even in a gasoline/methanol mixture system, the hardness, tensile strength, and volume changes of its vulcanized rubber are very small. After a long immersion test of 500h, the various physical properties have almost no change.

Heat resistance
The high temperature resistance of fluorosilicone rubber is the same as that of silicone rubber. It can be significantly improved by adding a small amount of heat stabilizers such as iron, titanium, and rare earth oxides. It has sufficient heat resistance even at a high temperature of 250°C. Temperature has a greater impact on fluorosilicone rubber than on silicone rubber.

Cold resistance
Fluorosilicone rubber has good low temperature performance like ordinary silicone rubber. Since fluorosilicone rubber is a linear polymer composed of soft Si-O as the main chain, its low temperature properties are better than those of fluororubber with C-C as the main chain. Among them, fluorosilicone rubber has better low temperature properties, and its brittle temperature can reach -59℃, while the general fluororubber is about -30℃.

Physical and mechanical properties
Fluorosilicone rubber, like ordinary silicone rubber, can be made into conductive, antibacterial, flame retardant and foaming fluorosilicone rubber by optimizing the material formula design. On the basis of the original oil and solvent resistance, it adds conductive, antibacterial, flame retardant and foaming properties.

Other characteristics
Fluorosilicone rubber has excellent weather aging resistance, and it still maintains good performance even after being exposed for 5 years. Ozone is one of the most generated gases when elastomers age, but fluorosilicone rubber has no cracks or cracks after dynamic or static tests, and has good ozone resistance. In addition, fluorosilicone rubber is also very mildew-proof, physiologically inert, and anti-coagulation. Fluorosilicone rubber changes little under harsh conditions such as high temperature, low temperature, humidity, oil, solvents, chemicals, and ozone. Fluorosilicone rubber's radiation resistance is not outstanding, but its radiation aging resistance is better than that of methyl vinyl silicone rubber.
