Fluorosilicone rubber: an all-rounder in the industrial field

Hits: 1198 img

Fluorosilicone rubber is often seen in the sealing parts of aircraft fuel systems, oil seals of automobile engines, and corrosion-resistant valves of chemical plants. This polymer has practical applications in many industries.

Its structure has its own characteristics: the main chain is a silicon-oxygen bond, the side chain contains trifluoroalkyl, and it is manufactured by the ring-opening polymerization of cyclic siloxane, and the polymerization method is similar to that of dimethyl silicone rubber.

In terms of performance, although the heat resistance and chemical resistance of fluorosilicone rubber are not as good as some fluororubbers, it has some characteristics of both due to the silicon-oxygen bonds in the main chain and the fluorine atoms in the side groups. Its operating temperature range is -60℃ to 200℃, and it can adapt to certain temperature changes. At the same time, it has good tolerance to fuel, engine oil, solvents and chemical media.

Based on these properties, it can be used in the automotive industry for sealing rings, oil seals, conduits, valve linings, etc.; in the aviation industry, it is suitable for fuel and lubricating oil resistant seals and contacts; in the petrochemical industry, it can also be used for some high temperature, low temperature and chemical resistant equipment sealing parts.

This material plays a certain role in related industrial fields with its own performance characteristics.
