Rubber, as an ideal sealing and damping material, has attracted much attention. At the beginning of the establishment of China's aerospace industry, in order to meet the urgent needs at that time, China carried out a large number of research and development of special rubber materials. With the development of China's industry, high-performance rubber materials and application technology have also made considerable progress.
Silicone rubber is a kind of linear polymer with Si-O unit as the main chain and methyl and a small amount of vinyl as the side group. It has the properties of both inorganic and organic materials. According to the different side groups on the silicon atom, it can be divided into dimethyl silicone rubber, methyl vinyl silicone rubber, methyl phenyl vinyl silicone rubber, ethyl silicone rubber and phenylene silicone rubber.
The sealing materials used in launch vehicles, satellites and aerospace vehicles are different from those used in general industrial fields. They have high industry standards, strict requirements and harsh use environment. They also have to undergo launch environment, space orbit environment and reentry environment. They are subject to high temperature, ablation, rapid changes in space temperature, high vacuum, ultra-low temperature and heat. Cycle, ultraviolet radiation, charged particles and atomic oxygen and other special environmental tests. Therefore, there are some special requirements for sealing materials in these fields.
Silicone rubber sealant developed by Institute of Aerospace Materials and Technology has outstanding heat and cold resistance. Its long-term use temperature is - 60 ~250 C, short-term use can exceed 300 C, instantaneous ablation resistance can exceed 3000K, ozone resistance, sunshine resistance, mildew resistance, seawater resistance and other excellent properties.
