MS glue is the abbreviation of silane-modified polyether glue. It is mainly a one-component or two-component elastic sealant made of MS polymer as the base polymer, combined with fillers, plasticizers and other functional additives. A new generation of building sealants developed after silicone glue (SR) and polyurethane glue (PU). Mainly used in construction engineering and decoration, bonding, caulking, joints, sealing, waterproofing, reinforcement and other fields. As people's understanding of the advantages of MS glue continues to deepen, its application in the fields of refrigerated trucks, containers, and elevator industries is also expanding. The properties and characteristics of all materials originate from the structure. The reason why MS glue has such good comprehensive properties has a lot to do with the special structure of its base polymer (silyl-terminated polyether).
Since MS glue came out in Japan in 1979, it has more than 40 years of development history. Referring to the data in 2016, in Japan, where the development of MS glue is the most mature, the market share of MS glue and silicone glue is 45% and 19% respectively; in addition, the market share of MS glue in Europe and the United States is 30% and 23%. Therefore, MS glue is still a long way from the "sealant crown", not to mention that the Chinese market, which only entered China in 2010 and has a market share of only 2%, turned positive overnight. According to statistics, in 2020, my country's silane-modified (MS) adhesives achieved a high growth rate of nearly 40%, and maintained a growth rate of more than 20% for three consecutive years. The MS adhesive industry has truly entered a period of explosive growth, and the industry has a bright future. . But MS glue also has some problems.
1. Technical factors: Strict requirements of MS glue production process (MS glue requires equipment capable of vacuuming, heating and cooling, with high-speed dispersing discs, etc.) and core technology (high requirements for moisture control in the production process, "physical/chemical removal of Water "" process control and other technologies) are more difficult;
2. Various factors such as product quality and price: a large number of manufacturers who are tempted by high profits to transform into MS glue lack mature MS glue production process, it is difficult to maintain the stability of product quality, and product quality cannot be guaranteed; at present, the quality of MS glue in China varies Inconsistent, there are very few high-quality MS glue products to choose from, and the market price is also higher than that of silicone sealants;
3. Market maturity and normative factors of MS glue and prefabricated buildings: The market maturity of MS glue and its application in prefabricated buildings is far from Japan, Europe and the United States. Japan and European and American countries have a relatively complete system of prefabricated decoration technology, and MS glue is widely used; however, although domestic prefabricated buildings and their integrated decoration are strongly supported by national policies, they are still in their infancy, and people's acceptance is not high. MS glue entered China around 2010. Compared with silicone glue, the market is relatively immature and non-standard.
4. MS glue is not competent in some special application scenarios and specific needs. For example, most of MS glue can not meet the full performance test of GB/T29755 "Elastic Sealant for Insulating Glass", and its temperature resistance is poor. It is very easy to crack and debond the sealant when making insulating glass with MS glue, and the insulating glass leaks. Air and water leakage lead to premature failure of insulating glass, which cannot meet the requirement of "the expected service life of insulating glass should be at least 15 years" proposed in GB/T11944-2012 "Insulating Glass".
