The coating materials used in the cable industry can be simply divided into two categories: plastic and rubber. The performance is good and the price is moderate. The production is very simple, so no matter from the variety and scale of use, the plastic cable is far more than the rubber cable, and the total consumption ratio is between (8-10): 1;
Rubber cable is characterized by softness, and will not melt due to crosslinking and curing of molecules in high temperature or short circuit, so it is mostly used in mobile equipment and electric heating equipment.
The rubber used in China's cable industry is ranked as follows (estimated value) according to the annual consumption in recent years:
Chlorinated polyethylene rubber (200000 tons), natural rubber (or styrene butadiene rubber) (60000-80000 tons), silicone rubber (70000-80000 tons), ethylene propylene rubber (50000-60000 tons), chloroprene rubber, chlorosulfonated polyethylene rubber, nitrile butadiene rubber, butyl rubber (the total does not exceed 50000 tons)
As natural styrene butadiene rubber has been limited by many standards in the cable industry, silicone rubber is likely to be the second largest rubber in the cable industry in China, next to chlorinated polyethylene.
According to cable standards, high temperature vulcanized silicone rubber is mainly used for the following types of cables:
1. Power cable, signal control cable and computer cable used in high temperature environment;
2. Lead wire and lamp cap wire for electric heating appliances;
3. Thermocouple temperature measuring cable;
4. Ceramic fire resistant cable;
5. Locomotive and vehicle lines, cables for ships, ignition lines for automobiles, torsion resistant cables for wind power, and cables for nuclear power station top;
6. Wires and cables with temperature resistance of 150 β and 200 β;
7. Export cables produced according to foreign standards;
8. High voltage cable accessories.
