Application of high temperature resistant and flame retardant silica gel material in aerospace

Silicone rubber material is an excellent insulating rubber material, which has the characteristics of ozone resistance and high temperature resistance. However, the biggest disadvantage of this material is its flammability, which needs to be overcome by flame retardant with good performance. We analyzed the preparation and properties of flame-retardant silicone rubber in the field of aviation, and discussed the influence of several commonly used flame retardants on the flame-retardant of silicone rubber, in order to improve the flame-retardant performance of this material and expand its application range. On this basis, further explore the current research and prospects of aviation silicone rubber materials.

Because of the particularity of space vehicle using environment and technical requirements, high temperature vulcanized silicone rubber is widely used in space products. Aerospace materials and process technology have accumulated a lot of high temperature vulcanized silicone rubber formula and process in the research and development work of the engineering department for many years. Through the demand analysis of application, the formula and process data of high temperature vulcanized silicone rubber are sorted to form application cases, material performance indexes, rule summary of formula, process knowledge points and test methods.

In order to study the effect of different kinds of curing agents on the properties of high temperature resistant and flame retardant silicone rubber, we applied BIPB, dCBP, BP and DCP in the production of rubber, and compared the elongation at break, hardness, tensile strength and flame retardant properties of flame retardant silicone rubber. The results showed that when the amount of curing agent in the flame retardant silicone rubber increased, the hardness of silicone rubber was corrected The tensile strength and oxygen index of silicone rubber have no obvious change.






After the second vulcanization, compared with BIPB, dCBP and DCP, the use of BP vulcanizer reduced the elongation at break and tensile strength of silicone rubber, but its hardness increased, while other vulcanizers improved the tensile strength of silicone rubber. In addition, these four kinds of curing agents improve the fire resistance of silicone rubber to a certain extent, which proves that different kinds of curing agents have great influence on the heat resistance of silicone rubber.
