Effect of phenyl silicone rubber on the sealing performance of industrial refrigerators

Hits: 1249 img

Phenyl silicone rubber is a specialty silicone rubber modified by introducing phenyl groups into the siloxane molecular chain. Its molecular structure significantly enhances its flexibility and sealing stability in low-temperature environments. In industrial freezers, sealing materials are exposed to extreme temperatures ranging from -40°C to -60°C for extended periods. The molecular chains of ordinary silicone rubber tend to harden due to crystallization at low temperatures, leading to seal failure. However, the rigid structure of the phenyl group effectively inhibits the orderly arrangement of the molecular chains, allowing the material to maintain high elasticity at temperatures below -80°C, preventing brittle cracking or shrinkage.

The compression set of phenyl silicone rubber is controlled within 5% (compared to approximately 15% for standard silicone). Even with frequent opening and closing of refrigerator doors or prolonged pressure, it maintains a tight fit, preventing air leakage and increased energy consumption. Furthermore, its phenyl structure imparts enhanced resistance to ozone and UV aging. Combined with a non-exfoliating formula (preventing surface powdering), this seal can maintain continuous use for over 10 years in complex operating conditions, including those involving moisture and oil.

In industrial freezers, phenyl silicone rubber is primarily used in key areas such as door seals, cabinet seams, and refrigeration pipe connections. Its high resilience and cold resistance eliminate changes in sealing gaps caused by temperature fluctuations. Furthermore, FDA-certified phenyl silicone can come into direct contact with cold chain storage items, eliminating contamination risks.
