The application technology of organosilicon in coatings (including inks) has evolved from professional and high-performance coatings to a wider range of fields. Insulation material
The first application technology of silicone resin as a coating is the fiberglass cloth tape impregnated with silicone resin, which serves as the insulation protection layer for wires on US Navy submarines. In the 1950s, China developed silicone resin, which was mainly used in the initial stage for insulation impregnation of H-class motor coils, impregnation of fiberglass cloth for wire wrapping and slot insulation of H-class motors, impregnation of fiberglass insulation sleeves, mica tape for insulation, and so on.

Therefore, pure silicone resin as an insulation coating is the oldest organic silicon product. The pure silicone resin produced by the old process has advantages that cannot be compared to other common organic resins, such as high temperature resistance, weather resistance, and good insulation. However, it also has disadvantages such as high curing temperature, long curing time, poor adhesion, and high temperature back adhesion. With the development of science and technology and the development of new materials, organic silicon is no longer the only H-grade insulation coating. High performance organic resin H-grade insulation paints such as polyimide and polyester have emerged.

Therefore, in order to adapt to the needs of the situation, organic silicon coatings must develop towards new processes, new technologies, new varieties, and new applications. Through the reform of silicone resin production process and the use of new technologies such as organic resin and silicone resin cold splicing or copolymerization modification, the three defects of silicone resin have been greatly improved, and the application fields of silicone coatings have also been expanded as a result.

The bonding force between the coating and the substrate includes mechanical bonding force, chemical bonding force, diffusion force, and dipole force. The magnitude of the bonding force directly affects the adhesion of the coating.

The main methods to improve the adhesion between coatings and substrates include substrate grinding, sandblasting, reducing the construction viscosity of coatings, increasing the construction temperature, and improving the wettability of substrates (using solvent wiping, corona discharge, flame burning, oxidant treatment, etc.). Regarding organosilicon, adhesion promoters are used, which means using primers. The organosilicon material used for primers is mainly silane. Alkoxysilane can improve the adhesion, flowability, leveling, wear resistance, dispersion of pigments and fillers, water resistance, and salt spray resistance of coatings and substrates. It has been widely used in primer formulations for various metals and silicon containing materials.
