The Basic Characteristics and Applications of Silicone Rubber

Hits: 768 img

Silicone rubber is a type of high-molecular-weight elastomer whose main chain is composed of alternating silicon and oxygen atoms, with two organic groups attached to each silicon atom. It exhibits many excellent properties, such as high heat resistance and excellent cold resistance, maintaining elasticity within a temperature range of -100°C to 350°C. Silicone rubber also possesses good electrical insulation properties, particularly when exposed to moisture or temperature changes, where its insulation capability remains almost unaffected. Furthermore, silicone rubber demonstrates excellent resistance to ozone, light, and atmospheric aging, as well as good oil and solvent resistance.

The application fields of silicone rubber are vast, including electrical insulation, sealing materials, cable accessories, composite insulators, anti-pollution flashover coatings, and thermally conductive silicone rubber. In the electrical industry, silicone rubber is commonly used for the manufacture of insulating layers for electrical equipment such as wires, cables, transformers, and motors. Additionally, silicone rubber is used to create sealing components for electronic and electrical products, such as waterproof seals for mobile phones and cameras.
