Types and Production Processes of Silicone Rubber

Silicone rubber can be classified into high-temperature vulcanized silicone rubber (HTV) and room-temperature vulcanized silicone rubber (RTV) based on vulcanization temperature. HTV silicone rubber is primarily used to manufacture various silicone rubber products, while RTV silicone rubber serves primarily as an adhesive, encapsulant, or mold material.

Depending on the monomer used, silicone rubber can further be divided into methyl vinyl silicone rubber, methyl phenyl vinyl silicone rubber, fluoro silicone rubber, etc., each with unique properties and applications. For instance, methyl vinyl silicone rubber offers good processing performance and can be easily manufactured into thick products with smooth surfaces. Methyl phenyl vinyl silicone rubber exhibits enhanced high and low-temperature resistance.

The production process of silicone rubber involves raw material preparation, polymerization reaction, and vulcanization molding. High-purity raw materials like dimethyl dichlorosilane are required during raw material preparation. The polymerization reaction produces high-molecular-weight polysiloxanes through hydrolysis and condensation. In the vulcanization molding stage, polysiloxanes are mixed with reinforcing fillers and vulcanizing agents, and then vulcanized into elastomers under heat and pressure.

Additionally, various additives can be incorporated into the silicone rubber production process to enhance its properties. For example, reinforcing fillers like fumed silica significantly increase silicone rubber's strength, while crosslinking agents form a network structure, improving elasticity.
