Classification and Advanced Processing Techniques of Silicone Rubber

Hits: 639 img

Silicone rubber is primarily classified into two categories based on the curing temperature: high-temperature vulcanized silicone rubber (HTV) and room-temperature vulcanized silicone rubber (RTV). HTV is primarily used in the manufacture of various silicone rubber products, with its raw rubber consisting primarily of high-molecular-weight polymethylvinylsiloxane. By adding reinforcing fillers, vulcanizing agents, and other additives, HTV is vulcanized into an elastomer under heat and pressure. In contrast, RTV is primarily used as an adhesive, potting material, or mold and is cured at room temperature or with slight heating.

The processing techniques of silicone rubber have also advanced significantly, encompassing various molding, calendering, and extrusion methods. In particular, the emergence of liquid silicone rubber (LSR) has made the processing of silicone rubber more efficient and flexible. LSR is a two-component liquid rubber system that can be pumped into injection molding equipment and then thermally cured into molded rubber parts. Furthermore, recent developments in silicone rubber liquid injection molding systems based on catalytic addition reactions have further improved the processing efficiency and product quality of silicone rubber.
