Silicone rubber has many advantages and properties, and different properties have their effects. What are the properties of silicone rubber?
1. Among all rubbers, silicone rubber has the widest working temperature range (-100~350 ℃) in terms of high and low temperature resistance. For example, ethylene based silicone rubber or low phenyl silicone rubber with appropriate coordination can still maintain elasticity after hot air aging at 250 ℃ for thousands of hours or 300 ℃ for hundreds of hours; Low phenyl silicone rubber vulcanizate can still maintain elasticity after several hours of hot air aging at 350 ℃. Its glass transition temperature is -140 ℃, and its vulcanizate still has elasticity at temperatures of -70~100 ℃. When silicone rubber is used as a heat resistant coating on the inner wall of rocket nozzles, it can withstand instantaneous high temperatures of several thousand degrees, and the silicone rubber has a continuous service life under high temperatures.
2. Resistance to ozone aging, oxygen aging, light aging, and weather aging. After being exposed to outdoor sunlight for several years in a free state, the performance of silicone rubber vulcanizate shows no significant change. Comparison of ozone aging resistance between silicone rubber and other rubbers.
3. Electrical insulation function: The electrical insulation function of silicone rubber vulcanized rubber varies less when exposed to moisture, frequency changes, or temperature increases, and the naturally occurring silica after combustion remains an insulator. In addition, the molecular structure of silicone rubber has fewer carbon atoms and does not require carbon black as a filler, making it less prone to scorching during arc discharge and highly reliable for use in high-pressure situations. Its corona resistance and arc resistance are excellent, with a corona resistance lifespan 1000 times that of polytetrafluoroethylene and an arc resistance lifespan 20 times that of fluororubber.
4. Special surface function and physiological inertness: The surface energy of silicone rubber is smaller than that of most organic materials, with low moisture absorption. It has a water absorption rate of only about 1% when immersed in water for a long time, and its physical function does not decrease. It has good anti mold function and does not adhere to many materials, which can provide isolation. Silicone rubber is odorless, non-toxic, and has no adverse effects on the human body. It has a slight reaction with body tissues and has excellent physiological inertness and aging properties.
5. Compared with other polymer materials, high breathability silicone rubber has good breathability, and its permeability to nitrogen, oxygen, and air at room temperature is 30-40 times higher than that of NR; It has selectivity for gas permeation and exudation, for example, its permeability to carbon dioxide is about 5 times that of oxygen.
6. The characteristics of the molecular structure of silicone rubber in biomedical function make it have excellent biomedical function, which has been confirmed by the successful application of a large number of animal and human experiments.
