Lagerstroemia indica L., belonging to the genus Lagerstroemia in the family chelidae, is native to China and has a long cultivation history. Crape myrtle has a long flowering period and blooms in the summer with few flowers. It is rich in color and plant type, and plays an important role in landscape architecture. The vertical branch character is a special type of Lagerstroemia, which has high ornamental value. However, the molecular mechanism of the formation of vertical branch character is weak, which limits the cultivation and landscape application of new varieties of Lagerstroemia.
In April 2020, horticulture research published a research paper entitled "transcribome profiles review that gibberellin related genes regular weeping traits in crape myrtle" by Professor Zhang Qixiang of Beijing Forestry University. In this study, L. farriei and L. indica 'Creole' BC1 populations were selected as the research objects, and the transcriptome of axillary buds before bending, shoot tips after bending and tender stem development before bending were collected and sequenced. Through KEGG enrichment and WGCNA analysis, gibberellin synthesis and signal transduction pathway were screened out to play a key role in the vertical branch character of Lagerstroemia specie. Furthermore, VIGS technology was used to reduce the expression level of negative gibberellin signal regulatory element lfigras1 gene. The new branches of the infected vertical branch lines showed negative gravity growth, that is, the down-regulation of lfigras1 gene promoted the growth of branches upward and reduced the branch angle. The above research provides the candidate genes and theoretical basis for the Directional Cultivation of new varieties of Lagerstroemia indica.

About Horticulture Research
Horticulture research is an English journal jointly founded by Nanjing Agricultural University and Nature Publishing Group (now Springer nature), which is the only special issue in the field of horticulture under nature. All basic and theoretical research on horticultural crops can be contributed. The influencing factors of horticulture research, Kerui Wei'an jcr2018 are 3.640, which are located in the first horticultural area (the 3rd / 36th) and the first plant science area (the 32nd / 228Th). Journal division of Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2019 (Basic Edition): it is located in the first area of horticulture, the first area of plant science and the first area of agriculture and Forestry Science (top journal).
