Effect of deionized water immersion on attenuation of silicone rubber

In the aging study of silicone rubber, the researchers immersed the silicone rubber in 70 ℃ deionized water after being pressed. The test results showed that the quality of silicone rubber gradually increased and reached a stable value after 30 days, with a mass increase of about 1%. After soaking for 3 months, the surface of silicone rubber was observed and found to be obviously rough. The infrared spectrum images before and after three months were compared, It is found that the characteristic peak intensity of silicon oxygen bond and Si-CH3 structure is significantly reduced. This phenomenon can explain the fracture of silicon oxygen main chain, resulting in more disorder of short chain. More in-depth research results show that the degradation mechanism can be explained that part of Si-O-Si structure is replaced by two Si oh.
